First Stitchfix Box

Ok, so I may be just a little late to the Stitchfix game ;) I remember hearing about it years ago, and seeing Stichfix pitches on blogs, but at the time I was far from interested. Juggling a new house and new babies, my wardrobe was the least of my priorities for basically a few years! I would occasionally buy a new outfit for special occasions, which usually meant a super speed shopping spree with the first affordable fitting outfit claiming the win. Yet, my new motherhood grove which currently does not include breastfeeding or pregnancy, has drawn my eye back toward fashion. Determined with my Simplify word of the year, I started with a closet overhaul project where I was still holding onto old college (and some high school!) clothes. I’m talking the sparkly shirts, the tube top tanks, the bell bottoms. Clothes that I was afraid to get rid of, pressured if they “still fit,” but were laughably outdated. It look a few weeks, but I slowly rid of the old to make room for the new, including new matching hangers (only with a gift card! ;) It became a lesson of moderation - balancing the fun of fashion (bringing back memories to my days of working in Express clothing through college!), with the temptation to overemphasize outward appearance. Claiming my why was helpful. It was a lesson of choice, and prudent processing - when something is triggering annoyance (which was my clothes at the time), asking the question, is there something I can choose to do about it? Why is it bothering me? Allowing myself permission to own this thirties decade of young motherhood season and have my wardrobe reflect that was more than ok. I found the coupons and gave it a go. It took about 30 minutes to fill out the survey and my first box arrived last month. They send you a box of a few outfits, where you can try on and return without purchase if you don’t like. I ended up happily purchasing this dress I wore for Valentines Day and my new perfectly fitting jeans, which I have worn almost every day since!

Tips for anyone ready to do the same:

  1. Name the season you are in and how you want your clothes to reflect that season.

  2. Find your fashion inspirations, (I’m not yet on the ‘gram, but basically consider your Insta influencers), and state your why behind your wardrobe. I personally think of strong modest women platforms, like JoAnna Gaines, Kate Middleton or Lila Rose. Stating my why of wanting to be proud of what I’m wearing and glorify the body God gave me through my clothes.

  3. Make a list of a few wardrobe wishes. For me it began with was a modest dress (goodbye sparkly strapless college ones haha) and nice fitting jeans. You will input what you are looking for in the order form online. Do you want something nice for professional work, for SAHM afternoons, Sunday church or next date night?

  4. Use coupons, never ever pay full price for clothes (or anything per my mom!) This is the referral code they gave me and hopefully you can apply it to your order! http://stitchfix.com/referral/nkkwtxmjq8 you should get $25 off (& then $25 credit will apply to mine as well!) I haven’t researched all the deals out there so keep looking for deals and discounts. Of course thrift-shopping rocks but if its a season where even thrifting is a burden, become savvy with these tools!

  5. Have fun! There is joy to be found in everything, including our clothes ;) I want you to feel good about the clothes you are wearing and enjoy these years of motherhood as much as possible. Let your wardrobe be a source of joy, not stress, enjoy!

On this mini-Easter, maybe think of it as preparing for the end of Lent! Praying for you and your confidence to rock it wherever you are! Have fun, mama!

In Joy,

Alex
