Telling Good Stories Online

NOW 39 WEEKS with baby #4! Looking back on this picture after bringing our last baby home two years ago! The tiny, intricate, miraculously knit new life.

Recently, my friends have been talking about using social media for the good.

In Pope Francis’ Message for 54th World Communications Day, he quotes Psalm 139, “knitted in our mother’s womb,” expanding “we are not born complete, but need to be constantly 'woven,' 'knitted together.' Life is given to us as an invitation to continue to weave the wonderful mystery we are.”

Can Instagram be a modern tool where we weave our mama stories together? We think so.

In this last birth, I thought plans were wrecked. I didn’t want interventions. I was determined for the natural birth. By 41 weeks, I clenched my teeth with prideful tears to a planned induction. I’ll never forget my Mom’s text on the way to the hospital,

“Don’t be upset, Alex, don’t fight it, try to relax. There are going to be many things in your young life that don’t go exactly as you planned. And that’s just the way it goes. That is life! The will of God for you is many times shaped by others. The best thing you can do for you and your baby right now is just relax. Let go of negative emotions. Send them out the door!”

Rest of birth story linked – spoiler, he ended up being born naturally on all fours on a hospital bed! Teaching the power of surrender and “the will of God to be shaped by others.”

Today, help us use this tool for the good, #choosingjoyonline and weaving our #tapestryofstories together! Share a story where God worked in your life, like how the words of my wise mother or the talent of my filmmaker husband worked in mine

“It's not a matter of simply telling stories, or of advertising ourselves, but rather of remembering who and what we are in God’s eyes, bearing witness to what the Spirit writes in our hearts and revealing to everyone that his or her story contains marvelous things.” - Pope Francis

Our small stories, our small squares, like those small little bodies, matter!

In Joy,

Alex
