Beauty in Advent #2 - Finding Peace
“You’re lacking peace, Alex. Those feelings are not from God. Our God is a God of Peace.”
BAMB! Sounds great, but I’m not a peaceful person! I’m not quiet or meek! I can’t relate to Mary.
Our patient Lord, through years of spiritual development, taught the difference between an exterior & interior state of heart.
How our outside world crazy & crashing, while our interior world at peace. How the external world hates us, while our souls follow the “Prince of Peace.”
Our homes are similar! Finding peace doesn’t start externally. A peaceful environment isn’t fulfilled with a vacuumed floor or a centered tree. A peaceful home is made by the inward attitudes of those living within it.
I’ll never forget when @readaloudrevival admitted, “I smile more at strangers than my own family! What if within the walls of my home, my family remembered a peaceful, smiling mother?”
We can do this! Small steps, simple smiles, little sprinkles of beauty to point us to the true peace of our heavenly home!
Four tips for Advent week 2 bringing the #beautyofadvent PEACE into our homes:
1. Displayed Nativity Set! You likely already have yours out & doing better than you think! The Holy Family is the perfect model for peace. We keep ours from St. Jude shop on our prayer alter all year, & our Holy Family painting from @visualgrace.sacredart swipe to see!
2. Add a spiritual classic to your bookshelf! My favorites for peace:
- Searching for & Maintaining Peace
- The Soul of the Apostolate
- Divine Intimacy
- Introduction to the Devout Life
- Man’s Search for Meaning
3. Have a picture or statue of Mama Mary, The Queen of Peace! Tomorrow we celebrate her Immaculate Conception – a perfect time to reflect on your own birth stories of your children! Mary never let her unexpected birth story interfere with her interior peace.
4. Smile in your home! “Peace begins with a smile,” Mother Teresa. That’s something we can all afford 🥰
