Homemaking DLD

Spring 2022

Learning to LOVE homemaking has been SUCH an incredible journey! I’ve honestly always loved decorating and creating in the home, but learning how to have an internal perspective of the ETERNAL fruits of homemaking this past year have been amazing. I’ve talked a lot on Instagram this past year about homemaking and have found so much solidarity in women embracing their homes and pouring their talents into them! I came up with a helpful homemaking mnemonic a few months ago and shared it on IG - it’s been SO helpful!

When I think of myself as the “mom boss” or “woman of my home,” it helps to take ownership and joy in my role. Hoping this helps any other moms who might need. Here’s the IG caption:

FAQ: "How do you balance homemaking/homeschooling/momlife?!?" ;) We all know the reality…YOU DON'T! haha really the balance is more like a revolving and ever changing door and once I wrapped my head around the fact that these things are a circular rhythm, rather than a “be on top of everything at the same time" as long as I have little humans who are living life around me ;) it helped see my daily tasks in a new light. It's not about being caught up on everything in my home - it’s about creating a rhythm.

As a nurse who LOVES acronyms (how's your BMP? HDL? BMI? CDC?? ;) the other day I made this acronym to put my three main homemaking things I plan out & it's helped me SO much I thought you ladies might like to use it too! When I get in a rhythm with these checkpoints, it frees up my mind to focus on other things. So from one Nurse Practitioner turned SAHM here's your homemaking hack:

Homemaking DLD:

D - DINNER: Know dinner by 10am. If you're not a meal plan pro yet, (goal is of course to plan the week meals on weekends) but in the case of a hectic weekend when that doesn't happen, just don't wait until 4pm to open that fridge ;) been there haha I love the tip "ABT" always be thawing - at the very least have a meat out and thawing at 10am, so you can easily plan the veggies around it & have one less decision fatigue to crash the afternoon!

L - LAUNDRY: do a load a day! I started this year after having my 4th son, so there's always enough to get done ;) and this way, I'm never spending all weekend catching up on loads. I throw in one load a day, usually in the morning and also usually have the boys fold their own!

D - DISHES: empty the sink and run the dishwasher every night! Waking up to a clean sink and clean dishes (boys chore to empty in the morning ;) frees up my mind and clutter for a new day :)

This is the ideal breakdown & then I can just take a mental note - check my DLD & move on!

***Ok ladies, which one is speaking to you?? Do you do these too? How's your homemaking DLD!?

With Joy,

Alex
