Using Book Baskets at Home!

HOW USING BOOK BASKETS CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE! šŸ˜
If youā€™ve never heard of ā€œMorning Baskets,ā€ or the ā€œ3 Bā€™s for books,ā€ Iā€™m about to make your day.

Homeschooling or not, using book baskets in a presentable, organized way is one of my FAVORITE mom hacks.

The morning basket, pioneered by @yourmorningbasket @jenmackintosh @cindyordoamoris is the idea of starting your day with ā€œtrue, good, and beautiful,ā€ materials. Generally not your math worksheet or spelling list, but something enjoyable for the whole family.

When I started homeschooling, I had no idea how to organize my materials or where to store them. My first preschoolers basket was a dollar store one filled with a childrenā€™s bible, frog and toad picture book, and Aesop fables. Placed in the center of our kitchen table, weā€™d pull them out for 10 minutes at breakfast, 10 minutes at lunch. My glorious basket beginning.

Since then, Iā€™ve evolved them for our entire curriculum. Upgrading to $10 target baskets, I display all of their books in the order to complete. Itā€™s SO simple and nice, I donā€™t even have to hide them after! Complete the book and move to the back. When you get interrupted, you know exactly where you left off! Thatā€™s the idea of looping! Check out @stephanieweinert who loves this!

Tips:
-Tie your basket to MEALS. The secret for getting in family read-alouds, the chewing keeps them seated at the table.
-Use the three Bā€™s for books in your house! Baskets, bathrooms & bedrooms! Books in all three is simply magical.
-Start with small, even cheap baskets. Let it evolve and upgrade from there.
-Keep a basket for individual subjects, individual kids, special read-alouds - whatever way you like.
-Use them for ANY time of day. Doesnā€™t have to be morning. Sometimes itā€™s your ā€œafternoon basketā€ or ā€œevening basket.ā€

Remember, for ANY mom hack ā€“ DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU! Read and try all the tips. Then ditch what overwhelms and keep what works. Confidence first grows by being a beginning. Eventually youā€™ll make it your own.

Thereā€™s nothing under the sun, just new humans with new perspectives and personalities. Hereā€™s to using book baskets in YOUR home! Let me know what works for YOU! šŸ„°šŸ“š

In Joy,

Alex
