Using Book Baskets at Home!

HOW USING BOOK BASKETS CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE! 😍
If you’ve never heard of “Morning Baskets,” or the “3 B’s for books,” I’m about to make your day. 

Homeschooling or not, using book baskets in a presentable, organized way is one of my FAVORITE mom hacks. 

The morning basket, pioneered by @yourmorningbasket @jenmackintosh @cindyordoamoris is the idea of starting your day with “true, good, and beautiful,” materials. Generally not your math worksheet or spelling list, but something enjoyable for the whole family. 

When I started homeschooling, I had no idea how to organize my materials or where to store them. My first preschoolers basket was a dollar store one filled with a children’s bible, frog and toad picture book, and Aesop fables. Placed in the center of our kitchen table, we’d pull them out for 10 minutes at breakfast, 10 minutes at lunch. My glorious basket beginning. 

Since then, I’ve evolved them for our entire curriculum. Upgrading to $10 target baskets, I display all of their books in the order to complete. It’s SO simple and nice, I don’t even have to hide them after! Complete the book and move to the back. When you get interrupted, you know exactly where you left off! That’s the idea of looping! Tips: 
-Tie your basket to MEALS. The secret for getting in family read-alouds, the chewing keeps them seated at the table. 
-Use the three B’s for books in your house! Baskets, bathrooms & bedrooms! Books in all three is simply magical. 
-Start with small, even cheap baskets. Let it evolve and upgrade from there. 
-Keep a basket for individual subjects, individual kids, special read-alouds - whatever way you like. 
-Use them for ANY time of day. Doesn’t have to be morning. Sometimes it’s your “afternoon basket” or “evening basket.” 

Remember, for ANY mom hack – DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU! Read and try all the tips. Then ditch what overwhelms and keep what works. Confidence first grows by being a beginning. Eventually you’ll make it your own.
