My Blessed is She Story & Tips to Start!

Three years ago, I sat at my computer staring at a picture of joyful, smiling Catholic women, wishing to be in it, hashtag #blessed brunch. A friend tagged me in a Facebook post, have you heard of this amazing community? Looks like something you’d be interested in!

YES, please add me! Struggling as a new stay at home mom, I felt lost. I should be working, making more professional or adult connections. Where can I find like-minded friends?

With negatively spiraling, the Holy Spirit inspired those keyboard bound fingers. Frantically searching, how to host this “blessed brunch.” I had a new home, and a burning desire for community.

Friends, I can’t type without tears. That one impulsive internet post has led to years of real, deep, Christ-centered friendships. We’ve gathered in my living room Monday evenings, cried, laughed, welcomed dozens of new babies born, mourned dozens taken too early, cheered for engagements, poured out our sufferings, sang praise, studied our bible and catechism, prayed rosaries, witnessed reversions, and grown deeply in our faith.

If you’re feeling stuck like I was, or lost in the midst of this world chaos, have hope! That yearn is the Holy Spirit. There’s a group waiting to be led or waiting to be filled by YOU. Trust in the founding verse of BIS, Luke 1:45, “And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.”

BIS is “a sisterhood of women who desire two things: prayer & community.” Powerful mix. I’ve witnessed its fruits, and the beautiful friendships born out of shared faith, suffering and vulnerability.

Although with many different sets of feet, we’ll gather here again next month. We’ve learned that Jesus always makes room, always stretches us, and that beautiful things that can start online ;)
